I'll be at the courthouse a few days in Nov. & Dec. 2004, weather permitting. I'll see if I can find anything there on him and reply back to this forum. No charge. You may email me any additional details if you think they would help to and make the subject line "Monroe Co, WV" so my spam catcher won't throw it out as junk. They have really good records, pretty detailed too. If not in Monroe, he may have been born in one of the neighboring counties since there are Diddles in all of those bordering WV counties (Summers, Greenbrier, Raleigh, and Mercer) counties presently. One other place you might try if you don't find the info in WV is to check the pre-civil war records in Augusta County, VA or the Commonwealth Bureau of Vital Statistics in Richmond, VA. A lot of WV records show up there since all of WV was once part of Augusta County, VA.
