Parents of Robert Monroe Harrison,c.1770
Posted by: Derrick Phillips Date: January 12, 2001 at 01:34:34

I am an Englishman looking for details of the parents of Robert Monroe Harrison, my American great-great-great-grandfather. Although Robert was born in Fairfax County, Virginia, I wonder if his middle name Monroe was given was because his father and/or mother came from Monroe Co, West Virginia (I only learnt that there was such a Co in West Virginia from another message on this board.I gather there is another in Ohio?)
Our Robert M. H. was born 16th April 1770 and died 24th May 1858 in Kingston, Jamaica. He was originally a Lieutenant in the Navy and served on the frigate Constellation, later became Colonel in the Militia and served as US Consul General for Jamaica from 1841. Documents state he was a cousin of President William Henry Harrison. Robert married a Margaret (probably Grosett) in 1807 and had a daughter Virginia Fairfax Harrison.
I hope these details about Robert will help identify him and his parents. Any help in tracing further greatly appreciated either on this message board or direct to me at:

Thanks, Derrick Phillips of London, England
