As a rule marriages took place in the home county of the bride.

7-11-1837 James GRATEHOUSE m. Nancy ASHLEY, Kanawha Co VA
[WV didn't become a state until 1863]. They were m by a Meth. Epis. Minister

Nancy may be the d/o Richard ASHLEY who m. Polly YOUNG 8-14-1816 Kanawha Co VA; there was a double wedding....John YOUNG m Margaret YOUNG....both girls daus of John YOUNG. Have no idea to whom John YOUNG, the groom, belongs.

1850 Kanawha Co VA
ASHLEY
Mary 48 [Polly is nickname for Mary]
Mary M 18
Rice Mc G [Mc Gee]17[1860 Roane VA]....m. Keziah NAYLOR
Joseph Mc F 15
James 12 [1860 Roane VA]
John 11
Harriett 6; 1860 lvg with John D YOUNG 63 & family
all b VA; presumably Rich. d 1844-50

1850 Nancy was living next door to John & Sarah [MC DADE] GREATHOUSE, Wirt Co [maiden name from tree on familysearch.org...UNCONFIRMED]. I believe John resided 1830 Kanawha.

Don't know what became of Nancy and her kids. If she survived she probably remarried, but not finding marriage.
