I see from the marriage record of E.T.J. Mattox and Gusta Eades that they were married 10/11/1903 in Franklin County, VA and that Augusta was born in Pittsylvania County, VA (adjacent county to Franklin County.)familysearch.org

Both were listed as black and single, though at 25, I wouldn't be surprised if she had been married previously.

I looked at the 1900 census for Franklin and Pittsylvania Counties, but didn't see Augusta.

I'd suggest getting a copy of the marriage record to see if you can make out her parents' names.
