Matthew Gallaway / Galloway in 1790 Monongalia Co, VA (now WV)

Looking for info or perhaps some look-up volunteers for information on a Matthew Gallaway / Galloway. This is the 2nd oldest incidence of that name in the U.S. that I have found & though we have no other reason to believe if it is our ancestor, the fact that the name is uncommon & ours has been rumored to possibly once been in VA (Monongalia having been formed from VA), I need to establish whether it is him.

Per a free website, he was listed on the 1790 census for Monongalia Co, (then) VA. And in Sept. 1790, he was trying to sue someone for trespassing on his property. We do know that he was in Wilkes Co, GA on a jury list in 1790, so it would seem to be another Matthew, but I have found nothing else on ANY other Matthew Galloway in the 1780-1790's anywhere, so I think it is him.

Either he somehow maintained two properties, perhaps inherited his sibling's property (his father appears to have died in NC in 1764 - no info on his mother) or perhaps he moved to GA later in 1790.

He married twice; once to Elizabeth Beavers ca 1780-1781 & 2nd to Mary East estimated ca 1790. Mary's father was from further south in VA, but he was known to bounce back & forth between Wilkes Co, GA & Robertson Co, TN, even during a short period of time, so perhaps Matthew did something similar.

I am looking for ANY additional information on his life in Monongalia Co, VA (now WV) or nearby. I have the limited details of the 1790 tax list, but that doesn't give me one of my main interests; whether or not he was married. We have not been able to find where or when he married either wife, so that is a primary interest.

There should be more information on the lawsuit. The case was dismissed for no appearance & I would assume that means Matthew didn't appear? Perhaps it wasn't worth his time (it was just trespassing, unsure the penalties for that way back when) & perhaps he was already in GA by then?

12-1791. District Court, Monongalia Count. Daniel Shahan summoned to answer Matthew Galloway on a plea of trespass damages 200 pounds, 20 Sep 1791. Dismissed, no appearance.

Could Daniel Shahan have been a neighbor? Did they have a history of being un-neighborly?

I am desperate. Our family has been looking to get past Matthew in 1790 Wilkes Co, GA forever and I've only recently found this 1790 VA information & the info on his 1764 guardianship of he & his siblings in NC. We are so close to breaking down this brick wall, but Monongalia Co, VA / WV info seems limited at least for online research.

Any info is most appreciated! Thanks!
