Smith in Hardy & Lewis Counties, WV

Nimrod and Jane (Thrasher) Smith were my g-g-g-grandparents. I have some information from them down to myself, but haven't been able to get farther back. Have been to a local library and find several John Smith's in Hardy County in mid-1800's, but no definite connection. Nimrod was born around 1801-1805 from what I find, so his dad would have been several years before that. I did find a John Smith who would have been born in the mid 1770's in the 1850 census of Hardy Co, WV. The timing could be possible for him to be Nimrod's father, but not sure where to look next to make a definite connection. Their son, Nimrod B. married Eliza Jane Alkire. Both NImrod families are found in Lewis County in the mid-late 1800's. Would like to connect with anyone having information on this line. Thanks.
