In Reply to: Joseph Bleau - Montreal to Kanawha County by Timothy Williams of 19725

In the 1900 census for Green Sulphur district (west side), Summers, West Virginia, Joseph Bleau, who has been married to wife Annie for 3 years, is shown with the following family:
Household Gender Age
Head Joseph Bleau M born Jun 1852, Canada FR, borth parents born France
Spouse Annie B Bleau F born Dec.1868, Pennsylvania, both parents born Pennsylvania
Child Fredrie A Bleau M born Sep 1881, West Virginia
Child Ernest V Bleau M born July 1884 West Virginia
Child Carie R Bleau F born December 1887 West Virginia
Child Birtie B Bleau F born April 1891 West Virginia
Child Mary V Bleau F born July 1894 West Virginia
Child Margaret Bleau F born July 1898 West Virginia
Child Daniel Bleau M born November 1899 West Virginia
All children show that their mother was born in West Virginia. This is not possible if Annie is their mother, as she was born in Pennsylvania. On the other hand, if Joseph and Annie have only been married for 3 years, only the youngest two children can belong to both of them.
The 1900 census record is here:

West Virginia birth records show that Joseph had another wife before Annie. Virginia Alice Gwinn was the mother of his first five children, Fred A. Bleau, Ernest Vivian Bleau, Violet May Bleau, Daisy R. Bleau, and Mary V. Bleau.

The 1910 census shows the family living at Charleston, Kanawha, West Virginia. This time Joseph's birthplace is Paris, and Annie's is Canada. The older children have left the household, which then consisted of:
Head Joseph Bleau M 57y
Spouse Annie B Bleau F 41y
Child Margret Bleau F 11y
Child Daniel Bleau M 10y
Child Ruth J Bleau F 9y
Child Mary M Bleau F 7y
Child Edith L Bleau F 5y
Child Teddy Bleau M 3y
Child Josephine A Bleau F 1y
Step-daughter Nellie Beasley F 18y
The 1910 census information is here:

For the 1920 census of Kanawha, West Virginia, I almost hesitate to say it is the same family, because the parents' birth places have changed, but the children are the same, with some younger additions:
Household Gender Age
Head Joseph Bleau M 63y born Pennsylvania?, parents born New York?
Spouse Annabel Bleau F 51y born New York?, parents born Pennsylvania?
Child Mary Bleau F 16y
Child Edith Bleau F 14y
Child Aed Bleau M 12y
Child Josephine Bleau F 10y
Child Paul Bleau M 6y
Child William Bleau M 3y11m
Children were born in West Virginia. The census record is here:
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MN2T-S45

None of this gives you Joseph's parents, but it should give a fuller idea of his family.
