Veda Scaggs Dufour


Mrs. Veda Skaggs Dufour, 90, of Pfafftown, N.C., died at her home on Friday, May 29, 2009. She slipped away peacefully to be with Damon and Huey.
Veda was born in Fayette County, W.Va., on June 28, 1918, to Ira Douglas and Myrtle McCutcheon Skaggs. Mrs. Dufour was a charter member of Gospel Mission Baptist Church in Tobaccoville, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Damon Cecil Dufour; son, Hugh Erwin Long; and brother, Maxie Arthur Skaggs.

Surviving are her daughter, Jacqueline Ann (Jimmie) Young of Falmouth, Va.; son, Watson Minyard (Donna) Dufour of Winston-Salem, N.C.; daughter-in-law, Angela Parente Long of Long Island, N.Y.; three brothers, Ira Waymen (Sally) Skaggs of Arnoldsburg, Herbert D. (Doris) Skaggs of Kearney, Neb., and Wade Clinton Skaggs of Victor; sister, Nell Skaggs (Jim) Murphy of Yadkinville, N.C.; eight grandchildren, John, Patricia, Natalie, Damon, Donna, Richard, Missy, and Kevin; 13 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Restlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum and Chapel, Ansted, W.Va., officiated by the Rev. Dwayne Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2009 at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Ansted.

The family requests that flowers be sent to Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home, 106 Holly Street, Ansted, WV 25812.

Huff Funeral Home of East Bend, N.C., is serving the family.
