At Kerns, Randolph county, Marion Butcher was struck and run over by a freight train Friday afternoon.His head was cut off clean and carried away by the engine, leaving the body on the track.
At the Trace Creek (Wayne county ) M. E. Church, John Smith assaulted A. W. Ball, father of Miss Edith Ball, and beat him in a dangerous manner.Ball objected to Smiths escorting his daughter to the church and tried to seperate the couple, when Smith felled him with a club.
The boiled of the steam sawmill of A. B. Leach & Co., situated at Falling Rock, on Elk river, exploded a few days ago.Joseph Wright and Mordecai Hoover were instantly killed, their bodies being horribly mangled, and Bud Mullens was so badly injured that he died in a few minutes.
