An Alexander FULTON, 28, a farmer, arrived at Castle Garden NY on 11 Aug 1859. He was from Scotland, sailed from Glasgow on the ship Glasgow. Travelling with him were Margaret 28, Isabella 5, Marion (female) 3 and Margaret 3m.
I presume this is the same family but two of the children's names don't match the immigration record unless "Marion" and Margaret's middle names were Anna and Ellen, respectively.
1860 District 7, Preston, VA:
Alexander FULTON 34, Margaretha 31, Anna 6, Isabella 4 and Ellen 1. Everyone was born in Scotland.
In 1870 they are still in Preston Co., Rowlesburg post office:
Alexander 45, Margret 29, Isabel 13, Annie 16, Ellen 10, Marian 9, Samuel 7, James 3, Alexander 2. The census says that everyone was born in Scotland except Marian was born in VA, James WV and Alexander WV. The census says that Samuel was born in Scotland, but that is unlikely.
1880 census in Braidwood, Will, IL, FULTON household:
self, Alexander, 53, Ireland IE IE, coal miner
wife, Margaret, 50, Scotland, SC SC, keeps house
dau, Marian, 18, SC
son, Samuel 17, SC, coal miner
son, James, 15, SC
son, Alexander, 12, SC, coal miner
son, William, 9, SC
dau?, Eddie, 6, SC
I believe Eddie was Alexander's son. An Edward FULTON md Freda BERTAGNOLI on 31 Oct 1899 in Grundy Co. IL. Freda's parents probably were Jacob and Mary, who immigrated with her to the U.S. on 25 Oct 1882.
Other FULTON marriages in Grundy Co. that may be the above persons:
Isabella and Montgomery SHARP on 16 Jul 1876; Samuel and Minnie M. SCHULTZ on 10 Oct 1888; James and Mary MCILWEE on 4 Jul 1891.
