Sorting out all those SPENCERS in Mannington

I am trying to straighten out my SPENCER ancestors who lived in the Flaggy Meadows area. Hopefully some of you have this family in your line.

My GGG Grandfather is Benjamin Lewis Spencer (hereafter referred to as 'my Benjamin' who married Sarah H. Griffith (dau of Elisha) in 1835. This family appeared in 1850 and 1860 census with children including a son named Benjamin. According to census reports Benjamin was born circa 1848.

Another Benjamin Lewis Spencer was born 1868 (married Emma DeVore). I had assumed this person was son of my Benjamin Lewis. According to census records, Benjamin F. born 1848 is my Benjamin's son.

Census records do not show any early records for Benjamin L. (1848) nor later records for Benjamin F. (1848).
To confuse the issue even further, there's another Benjamin F. Spencer born about 1842 who fought in the Civil War and spent his last years in a home for disabled veterans. During the war years, his home was listed as Mannington.

My questions are:
[1] Assuming Benjamin F. Spencer (1848) is the true son of my Benjamin Spencer/Sarah Griffith. What happened to him. I find no records beyond 1860 census records. (There is a Benjamin Spencer in Tyler Co. who was born at the same time, but cannot find any further information on him, either.

[2] Who are the parents of Benjamin Lewis Spencer (1868) who married Emma Devore? Is he related to my Benjamin Lewis? I found his death certificate in WV Archives, but the undertaker was listed as person providing information. Father and mother were listed as "don't know".

[3] Who does the Benjamin F. Spencer who fought in the Civil War belong to. All these Spencers are probably related, but I can't straighten them out.

I didn't mean to be so longwinded.

Regards,
Suzan Ankrom Wedig
