I have posted to the Hershberger genforum (as well as the Mineral County, WV, one) and found someone else working on my line with whom I've communicated. He has hit the same wall as me. Some of the naturalization records were lost in a fire. We think our John S. may have been the Sebastian Hershberger who immigrated to Baltimore, MD, in 1832. But that is speculation on our part.

On the Hershberger genforum the problem is that there are two John Hershbergers born abt. 1815 in Germany. My John S. (a Roman Catholic) and the one that lived in Fountain, IN. They are often confused. I know from comparing census records that they are two different persons as my John S. was in WV at the same time the other was in IN.

What I was hoping for was someone who may still be in Marion County who would recognize my Hershbergers.

Thanks for all of your suggestions.
