In the book "Now and Long Ago" by Glenn Lough, Meredith's Tavern is mentioned by Rev. I. A. Barnes as a Winfield District Industry on page 543.

"The old Meredith Tavern at Meadowdale was a popular overnight stoppng place for the 'overland schooners' which transported goods from Pittsburgh to Middletown (Fairmont) and Clarksburg. What its spacious cellar contained is a question for your own imagination!"

Meadowdale is located on Rt. 73 just northeast of Fairmont (Exit 139 of I-79).
