In the West Virginia & Regional History Collection, West Virginia University is a Scott Family Genealogy, A&M 555, with this information: Rachel Scott (1732-1780), dau of Alexanger Scott (d. 1751) married John Claypool (d. 1823) Among the children listed is Mary, married ___ Metcalf. The documentation is sparse, only "Va. tithable list 1750" and "Estate settlement, Chalkley Records, Old Augusta co., Staunton, Va." You probably can get a photocopy from them. The Wesp Collection, A&M 1613, contains a Claypoole genealogy that I have not seen. John Claypool is buried in the Miller Cemetery, 1.1 miles south of Lost City on state rout 259. This is in Hardy County. His gravestone reads: "In memory of John Claypool who as boirn September the 26th 1733 and died the 6th of August 1823 in the 90th year of his age." There is no marker for Rachel. "Brief History of Early Times in Lost River," at http://www.wvculture.org/history/agrext/lostrivr.htmlconatins a reference to the origin of John Claypool.
