I'm interested in the Harvey Washington Yankey family who lived in Milroy Twp, somewhere between Dorcas and Rough Run on S. Mill Creek Rd. He was married to Mary Margaret Ketterman and they are listed on the 1880 census with daughters Betsey and a "Henry E' who was actually Henrietta. Henrietta was my ggrandmother. The house was built about 1863 and there was a legal distillery operated on it by Harvey, around 1866, per a tax list. It's rumored some of the family members may have been buried behind another one of their homesteads on a hill on Deep Spring Rd.
Harvey was picked up by the "Yanks" during the Civil War, classified as a Confederate Pow although not actively fighting, sent to Camp Chase, in Ohio and eventually sent to Johnson Island prison, in Lake Erie. He was eventually released, only to be sent south so he could then fight the Yanks. Harvey and Mary Margaret had 5 children: Sarah Jane Yankey Lewis, 1851-1932, Mary Ellen Yankey Mongold, 1855-1926, Elizabeth 'Betsey' Anne Yankey Sites, 1857-1944, Henrietta Yankey Borror, 1860-1943, and William Strite Yankey, 1863-1873. I have pictures of Harvey & his wife, plus all his children, thanks to the good sense of my ggrandmother, Henrietta, in keeping them for the family.
Betsey married Christian Sites, in 1882, and lived in that area her entire life. She and her husband are buried in the Cleaver-Sites Cemetery, formerly known as Sites Cemetery, on Deep Spring Rd., in Rough Run.
I would greatly appreciate knowing ANYTHING you can find about Harvey & wife, where they lived, when they died & why(?) and where they have been laid to rest. I've been unable to find anything on them after the 1880 census and the Grant Co. WV genealogy website hasn't been updated in years and most of the links don't work.
