From my notes on earlier research:
Daniel Rinkle/Wrinkle b. ca 1780, surely a son of George Wrinkle Sr, apparently had three wives. This conclusion is drawn by observing that in the 1830 Roane Co. TN census, in addition to the children generation Wrinkles already married and in their 20's, Daniel's own household had no children between the ages of 10 and 20 but seven below the age of 10.Also, in both the 1830 and 1840 census, the female who would apparently be his wife is listed as 40-50, not possible for a marriage in 1801.The 1840 census lists additional younger children not present in 1830, increasing the likelihood that they are all Daniel's children, not grandchildren from a deceased child. The first wife was Polly Hess, the other(s) unknown.
A closer examination of the records of Roane Co. and Bradley Co TN should help straighten out this family. Also, the possibility exists for a Hess estate settlement in Knox or Roane Co. shedding light on Polly (Hess) Wrinkle's children. There are however no Hess families in the 1830 census for Knox Co. TN, and of course earlier census records are not extant for East Tennessee.
Since Daniel Wrinkle's widow was named Elizabeth and was aged 61 in 1860, she would appear to NOT be the Elizabeth Wrinkle (aged 25) in Daniel Wrinkle's 1850 census. This would suggest she was a third wife whom he married after 1850.HOWEVER, if the census enumerator (or the later copier of the census) inadvertantly transposed the numbers in 1850 (in other words, 25 instead of 52), then the widow Elizabeth COULD be the woman in the 1850 census and the mother of the second group of kids.On the other hand, her age would still be inconsistent with the oldest female in the 1830 and 1840 census listings.--Carl
