Lane,
I noted in your posting that you said Elizabeth Searl in her scrapbook and journal stated that your 1828 (year of death) William Wright of Todd County, KY, (place of death) was married to Amy Frazier in Frederick County, VA.I have some documentation that I think brings that identification into doubt.I think that the William Wright who married Amy Frazier in 1795 in Frederick County, VA, was 1834 (year of death) William Wright of Coshocton County, OH, (place of death).
The documentation for the DAR Application #696077 of Eloise Wilma Ramsey Maynard, Shaker Heights, Cleveland, Ohio, dated October 24, 1985, included a Family Record prepared in part by 1834 William Wright of Coshocton County, OH, which listed the following:
"Family Record for William Wright
William Wright (my Father) was born in York County Virga. Novembr 1st 1740.
Elizabeth Wright, (his Wife, my Mother, & daughter of Wm Lloyd) was born below York Town near Hampton Virginia Novemr. the 7th 1750.
They married Decemr. the 25th 1768.
Wm Wright Decd. August 29th, 1806 near the upper end of Fauquier Co. at his own farm near the blue Ridge & was intered in Dermonts burying ground, near the spot his Mother was placed in, many years before; whose age when she Died ws said to be upwards of 80 years.
Elizabeth Wright Decd. July 25. 1830. & was Intered at the same place.
William Wright (son of Wm & Elizth. Wright) was born in York Town Virginia Novemr. the 10th 1769.
Amy Wright, (his wife Daughter of John & Martha Frazier was born in Chester Co. Pennsylvania Novemr. the 1st, 1778.
1. Mary Wright (Daughter of Wm & A. W was born in Frederick Co Virga March the 19th, 1796.
2. George Washington Wright was born in Fauquier Co. Virginia Decemr. the 5th 1797.
3. Charles Wright was born in Fauquier Co Decemr. the 12th 1798.
4. Lewis Wright was born at the same place Decemr. the 7th 1800.
5. Albert Wright was born at ditto August the 22d 1802.
6. William Wright was born at ditto August the 10th 1804.
7. Martha Wright was born at ditto march the 20th 1806
8. Sarah Wright was born at ditto May the 18th 1808
9. John Wright was born at ditto Novemr the 8th 1810
10. Elwood Wright born at ditto June the 12th 1813
11. Edward Wright was born in Washington Township Coshocton County State of Ohio Decemr the 8th 1815.
Amy Wright mother of the above 11 children Decd on the 23d of June, near 4(?) PM. 1819.Pike Township Coshocton Co. and was Intered in Joshua Lemarts and Payn Clarkes burying ground on the Land of Joshua Lemart.
Katharine Wright, (formerly Katharine Kasner, second wife of Wm Wright) was born on the 18th of September 1798 and was married to Wm Wright May the 18th 1823.
Martin Luther Wright Son of Wm & Katharine Wright was born in Pike Township Coshocton County July the 18th 1828.
Daniel Howard Wright was born in Ditto, July the 10th 1830.
Katharine Wright Decd in the afternoon of Novemr. the 5th 1830. was Intered by the side of Amy Wright.
William Wright son of Willm and Elizabeth Wright Died august the 27th 1834 andwas intered by the last above"
The marriage record of William Wright and Amy Frazier was dated on September 29, 1795, at Frederick County, Virginia:
"Know all men by these Presents, That we William Wright & David Parkins are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency Robert Brooke Esq. Governor of Virginia, in the just and full sum of one hundred and fifty Dollars, to which payment well and truly to be made, to the said Governor, or his successors, we bind ourselves our heirs, executors, and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these Presents.Sealed with our seal, and dated this 29th day of Septemr. 1795
The condition of the above obligation is such, that, whereas there is a marriage suddenly intended to be solemnized between the above bound William Wright and Amy Frazier now if there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said Marriage, then the above obligation to be void and of no effect, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue
Sealed and delivered William Wright
in presence of David Parkins
Isaac Beall"
The names of the husband and wife in the Family Record and the marriage record are the same and the date of the marriage in 1795 and the date of the first birth listed in the Family Record in 1796 are chronologically consistent and the listing of that first birth in Frederick County, VA, is consistent with a marriage there. And the listing of the births of the other children in first Fauquier County, VA, and then Coshocton County, OH, are consistent with the William Wright of the marriage record being 1834 William Wright of Coshocton County, OH.And the Family Record clearly indicates that Amy (Frazier) Wright died well after your 1828 William Wright had married Elizabeth Allison.
We might have a situation of two William Wrights and two Amy Fraziers marrying about the same time in Frederick County, VA, but that seems improbable.
My guess is that Elizabeth Searl, working in the mid-1900's, saw the William Wright/Amy Frazier marriage record and assumed it related to your 1828 William Wright of Todd County, KY, did not realize there might be two William Wrights in Frederick County, VA, in the mid-1790's, and did not have the information on 1834 William Wright of Coshocton County, OH, that would have put her identification in doubt. But I could be wrong.
So my question to you is do you have any other documentation beyond Elizabeth Searl's scrapbook that would support the identification of the William Wright who married Amy Frazier as the same person as your 1828 William Wright of Todd County, KY?If you do, I would much appreciate your sharing that so that we can confirm or deny this identification.
Best wishes,
Robert N. Grant
