Dear Bill:
William Wright's will in Lincoln County, GA (Book: Will D, page 193) was recorded 13 January 1827. The will lists his wife Drucilla Griffin, and daughters; Lucy Stovall wife of Drury Stovall, Mary Stovall Barnett -first wife of David J. Stovall, Sally Wright wife of Lewis Wright, Elizabeth Wright, Amelia Wright (m. Holmes). And sons William Wright Jr., Richard Wright, John Wright, Reuben Wright, David Wright, Samuel Wright who married Agnes Samuel, Nathan Wright, and Benjamin Wright 1797-1877 (my GGG- Grandfather who married Jane Samuel- Sept 17 1829). I have a copy of an old fmaily tree created by Otis Ashmore and he wrote on it, "The Wrights moved from Mecklenberg Co., NC soon after the Revolution and settled about two miles N.W. of Lincolnton, GA. William Wright was in the Revolution under Captain Elijah Graves from Mecklenburg Count (VA). His certificate of services is dated Oct 11, 1782 and is signed by J. Randolf and I (or O) Bourk"
Willam's Revolutionary Bayonnette was given to my by my grandfather Horace H. Wright, and he received it from his father John Marshall Wright with a note stating "Last used in the Battle of Cornwallis" -possibly referring to Cornwallis' surrender in Yorktown where his sword was given to General Benjamin Lincoln whom the County is named after. I have been unable to verify Willaim's War record and I would think the proof would be in the Lincolng County courthouse relating to land grants after the war to Revolutionary Veterans, but it appeares William never applied for a pension, consequlty I have been unable to determine wether the Otis Ashmore is correct stating the Wrights moved from Mecklenburg County NC.
Hope that helps,
John Wright
