Fay,
Thank you for that additional information. As it happens, I was just making a copy of an article about this Wright family which you may find of interest.
The American Genealogist, Vol. 72, Nos. 3-4, dated July 1997, included an article titled "Quaker Marriage Certificates" by Stewart Baldwin. This is an excellent article about using Quaker witness lists for identifications and includes a section on 1759 (year of death) James Wright of Frederick County, Virginia, (place of death) and his wife Mary. The introductory paragraph of the section on Mary (Bowater) Wright reads as follows:
"James and Mary Wright were early members of the New Garden Monthly Meeting in Pennsylvania, who later moved to Monocacy, Frederick County, Maryland, and then to Frederick County, Virginia. The records of the New Garden Monthly Meeting in Pennsylvania show the births of the children of James and Mary Wright, but do not state Mary's maiden name.Although her maiden name has been given as Davis in a number of sources, it appears that no good evidence has ever been put forward to support that maiden name.In fact, as will be shown below, Mary's maiden name was not Davis, but Bowater, and she was the daughter of John and Mary (Maunder) Bowater of Spittlefields, near London, and a half-sister of John and Thomas Bowater, two other early Quaker immigrants to Pennsylvania."
Mr. Baldwin then provides extensive evidence, including Quaker witness lists, for the identification of Mary Bowater as the wife of 1759 James Wright of Frederick County, Virginia.
I thought you and other researchers would find this article and its conclusion of interest.
With regard to the Wright and Wade and Ballenger families and Amherst County, Virginia, I have one small bit of information for you. There was a Mary Wright, daughter of 1850 Tommey Wright of Bedford County, Virginia, and Synthia (Mayse) Wright, who married Ballenger Mayse on Dec 11, 1811, in Bedford County, Virginia.Chalkley's Abstracts listed Ballenger Mayse as a son of Robert and Susanna Mayse.Ballenger Mayse died in 1860 in Augusta County, Virginia.Hopefully, this tidbit will be of some help to you in your search.
Best wishes,
