Exciting DNA Results
To the List:
A recent DNA result has produced some very good news that I thought everyone would like to know. For convenience of future reference, this message is being posted to several lists, so you may see multiple copies of this.
1792 (year of death) John Wright of Fauquier County, Virginia, (place of death) had, among other children, two sons, William Wright and John Wright, who were named in his will.
Charles Hoppin in his works in 1919 and 1932 identified the son John Wright as 1789 John Wright of Surry County, North Carolina, and I have seen no evidence or documents that contradict or question that identification.
Charles Hoppin also identified the son William Wright as 1805 William Wright of Fauquier County, Virginia, but this was incorrect. As set forth in prior postings, 1805 William Wright of Fauquier County, Virginia, was born in 1740 and William Wright, the son of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County, was married to Mary Grant before 1751 and received land from his father in 1751, when 1805 William Wright of Fauquier County was only eleven years old.The result is that 1805 William Wright of Fauquier County was born too late to be William Wright, the son of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County.
My research had indicated that 1809 William Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, was the son of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County, Virginia. The significant amount of evidence for this conclusion is set forth in The Identification Of 1809 William Wright Of Franklin County As The Son Of 1792 John Wright Of Fauquier County, published by Heritage Books, Inc.
A number of descendants of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County have participated in the Wright DNA Project, including David Ray Wright, Kit #38121, who appears to have the modal haplotype for descendants of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County.
A new participant in the Wright DNA Project is Thomas Carr Wright, Kit #94975, who is a descendant of 1789 John Wright of Surry County, North Carolina. The exciting news is that the Y-DNA for Thomas Carr Wright turned out to be an exact 37/37 match to the Y-DNA of David Ray Wright.
The result is that we now have evidence that the male Wright descendants of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County have the same Y-DNA as the male Wright descendants of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County through his son 1789 John Wright of Surry County, North Carolina, and this evidence confirms that 1809 William Wright of Franklin County was the same person as William Wright, the son of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County.
Another participant in the Wright DNA Project is Dan Wright, Kit #26651, who is a descendant of 1805 William Wright of Fauquier County. His Y-DNA is substantially different from that of David Ray Wright and Thomas Carr Wright. The result is to confirm that 1805 William Wright of Fauquier County was not a descendant of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County. My research set forth in prior posts indicates that 1805 William Wright of Fauquier County was a son of 1752 John Wright of York County.
There is still more work to be done.
Charles Hoppin asserted that 1729/30 John Wright of Stafford County was a son of 1713 Francis Wright of Westmoreland County and the evidence for this conclusion seems complete and convincing.Charles Hoppin then went on to assert that 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County was a son of 1729/30 John Wright of Stafford County, Virginia. However, Hoppin’s evidence for this was substantially based on his identification of Dorothy Aubrey as the wife of 1729/30 John Wright of Stafford County, but that was incorrect. As set forth in prior posts citing an Essex County deed, Dorothy Aubrey was the wife of John Billups.Hoppin’s remaining evidence for the identification of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County as the son of 1729/30 John Wright of Stafford County is very slim.
Equally importantly, the identification of the Y-DNA of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County also brings into question his identification as a son of 1729/30 John Wright of Stafford County for the reason set forth below.
Another participant in the Wright DNA Project is James Logan Wright, Kit #71409, who is an apparently documented descendant of 1713 Francis Wright of Westmoreland County through his second son 1741 Richard Wright of Westmoreland County. But the Y-DNA of James Logan Wright is not a match to either Thomas Carr Wright or David Ray Wright. If other male Wright descendants of 1713 Francis Wright of Westmoreland County have Y-DNA that does not match Thomas Carr Wright and David Ray Wright, then 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County would probably not be a son of 1729/30 John Wright of Stafford County or a grandson of 1713 Francis Wright of Westmoreland County and we will have to look elsewhere for the parents of 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County.
So we now have to find some more documented male Wright descendants of 1713 Francis Wright of Westmoreland County to confirm or deny that 1792 John Wright of Fauquier County was a son of 1729/30 John Wright of Stafford County and a grandson of 1713 Francis Wright of Westmoreland County.
If anyone knows of a documented male Wright descendant of either 1789 John Wright of Surry County, North Carolina, or of 1713 Francis Wright of Westmoreland County, I encourage them to obtain that descendant’s participation in the Wright DNA Project to help with this issue.
