Job Wright of the Saratoga Tax District of Albany County NY c. 1779
I am seeking information on the Job Wright, who lived in the Saratoga Tax District of Albany County, New York in the 1770s.I am not sure if there were two men living in the Saratoga District by this name or only one.If there were two are they related and if so how?
I keep poking around, but I keep coming up with more questions than answers.
Job Wright's name appears on the following Saratoga District Tax Lists:
a) March 2nd 1779 at page 13
b) October 23rd 1779 at page 10
c) 1786 - East side at page 1
d) 1787 - East side at page 2
e) 7788 - East side at page 3
Job Wright was a captain in the New York Levies - New York in the Revolution by Berthold Fernow.
Job Wright was a captain in the New York 1st Regiment of the Line and the New York Levies - New York In the Revolution as Colony and State by James A. Roberts, Comptroller of the State of New York.
Roberts also states that a Job Wright served with the 3rd Regiment of Westchester County Militia.
Roberts reports that one man named Job Wright received bounty land rights. However there is no way to identify him.
The Job Wright of the 1779 Saratoga Tax District is taxed on PERSONAL PROPERTY, not on real estate. (However that strikes me as a bit odd for a man whose name appears on a 1774 deed as grantee for a portion of the Vly Lott.)
Both Job and Reuben Wright posted bail for Jotham Bemis, a loyalist who fled to Canada.
A Job Wright served on the Albany County Committee of Correspondence.
The Albany County Commissioners for Conspiracies sent Captain Job Wright out to take "disaffected persons" into custody, among other things.
I am really beginning to feel that I have two Job Wrights living in the Saratoga Tax District in the 1770's. I can not imagine that a staunch patriot like Captain Job Wright would post bail for a loyalist, Jotham Bemis, who fled to Canada.
Jotham Bemis (1738-1786) was married to Tryphena Moore, the daughter of Gideon Moore of Great Lott 10, who originally came from Connecticut.
There is a Job Wright, who married Anne Moore at the Schaghticoke Dutch Reformed Church in 1778. Either this is a younger man marrying his first wife, or he is an older man who is marrying a second wife.
If the Job Wright, who married Anne Moore, were the son of the bail-poster, he might have talked his father into posting bail for one of his wife's in-laws. Or if the Job Wright, who posted bail, were an older man, he may well have been a contemporary of Bemis and not as staunch a patriot as Captain Job Wright. (Jotham Bemis' sons were staunch patriots even though he was a Loyalist.)
DEED.
Between Job Wright of the District of Saratoga, County of Albany, State of New York, and Silvenus Dunham and Abraham Wright of the district County and State aforesaid. Dated April 10, 1790. Consideration 532 pounds, 15 shillings. Conveys "All that certain lot piece or parcel of land situated lying and being in the County of Albany within the bounds of a tract of land known and distinguished by the name of the Saratoga Patent and is part and parcel of lot number thirty nine in the second division of the said Saratoga patent and is known by the name of lot number one in the subdivision of lots number thirty nine and forty six in the second division of the said Saratoga patent. Beginning on the east bank of the Hudson River in the north westernmost corner of said lot number thirty nine and runs from thence easterly along the north bounds of the said Great Lot number thirty nine. Sixty-four chains, thence south twenty six degrees west twenty-five chains and thirty-seven links. North eighty six degrees and thirty minutes west to Hudson River thence along the bank of Hudson River aforesaid northerly to the place of beginning, containing one hundred and thirty six acres of land."
How is Job Wright connected to Abraham Wright?
What was Job Wright's role, if any, in running Wright's ferry?
There is no one named Job Wright living where I would have expected him to be in Albany Count, NY on the 1790 Census. There is one down in Watervliet and there is one in Freehold (where ever that may be.) So maybe the Job Wright of the Vly Lott departed this life before 1790.
Job Wright of Watervliet2/0/2
Job Wright of Freehold1/0/2
Reuben Wright, along with Job Wright, posted bail for Bemus. How are Job and Reuben connected? They obviously knew one another, but was there anything more?
Is Job Wright connected to Gilbert Wright, also of the Saratoga District, in any way?
I have asked a lot of questions and I am willing to share whatever I have in my data base that might be of assistance to you. Thank you for your help.
