The marriage date I have for Thomas Wright and Dora Lewis came from Dora's obituary. It was given as Feb 06, 1881. It's possible there is some margin of error. The record posted onsite as a response to my search showed a Dora Lewis of Sheffield married Abraham Wright March Quarter 1882. Maybe the Feb 6 is correct and whoever provided the marriage date for her obituary was off by a year; or maybe it's not the same Dora Lewis or Thomas A Wright of Sheffield. So theremay be a good reason Thomas and Dora are not listed in the 1881 census as being married. It'curious , too, that Dora was married to Abraham Wright. Without resolving that discrepancy I can't say whether these are my ancestors. The only thin thread I now have to possibly tie them together is that Thomas is listed as Thomas "A" Wright, with the A possibly standing for Abraham.
Dora's obituary also stated she was the daughter of George and Mary Lewis; and had a sister named Lillie: actually it gave names of three sisters, Lillie Wallison of England, Mary Ann Yates of England, and Anna Holroyd living in the USA. The 1881 census showed a George and Mary Lewis in Sheffield (Attercliffe) with daughters Dora and Lilly. Dora's obituary gave her birthdate as Nov 11, 1862 which would have made her 18 or possibly 19 at the census. The census entry for George and Mary Lewis gives their daughter's age as 17. So, several of the records are 'close' to the information provided in Dora's obituary.
The only information provided in Thomas'obituary was his birthdate and that he came from Yorkshire.
I do not know if my Thomas is related to the Joseph and Harriet Wright I mentioned. That's why I was hoping to see if there was an Albert listed among their children in a census. Thomas's obituary mentions he had a brother Albert. If Albert is listed as Joseph & Harriet's child, this would certainly make it more likely Joseph and Harriet are my great grandfather Thomas's parents.
The Dora Lewis shown in the 1881 census in Sheffield (Attercliffe) agrees closely enough with her obituary that I think it's likely she is my greatgrandmother. I am presuming the Sheffield area at the time of the 1881 census was not so populous as to have several George and Mary Lewis with a daughter named Dora who is approximately the same age. If this Dora is likely my greatgrandmother, that also supports the possibility her spouse Abraham Wright is actually the same Thomas A Wright. Thanks again for your interest and assistance.
Best regards,
Ed
