First thing that should be done is to write to each Tribal Chief and ask if they want such a day (I'm sure they would), 2ndly, what day do THEY think it should be on, than get all these people who are looking for the NA ancestors to start writing to the senates and tell them to get one adopted..and those people who think there should be one who are not of NA blood.
I have recently learned that the Cherokee's have a New Year on October 6th.
As for what someone mentioned about too mant tribes to have a day for each I agree with. But that brings up the debate on the Mascots for some High Schools. There is a High School in my area that is the Mascot 'Indians'. It was not thought of as a bad thing towards the NA, but because they wanted the school to be after the tribes, and about the only name they could fit for ALL tribes was Indian. My Great grandma told this to me and she lived to be 103. As a young lady, she was around the area.
So maybe instead of changing it, maybe they should pick a better name yet one that holds for ALL the neighboring tribes.
