Hi Dorothy,
I wish I could tell you something. My grandmother Lulu Martin was born on the reservation at Ada, but she was taken by her grandparents the Clinesmiths. At one time I thought the Martins were in Kansas, but I am not sure.
My grandmother spoke Chocktaw and was a translater for the whitemen. She blended so well no one knew.
I would suggest you go to the genealocial department or library and they will order the Indian files on microfilm for you. They helped me. That was some years ago so I don't know if they still do that or not. They order them on loan from the Indian Bureau of Affairs in Washington DC.
Indian blood was hidden by so many they were ashamed.
My grandparents were no exception.
Seems you have a great start.Good luck on your book.
Best wishes,
Paulyne
