I just ran across some newspapers, belonging to my grandmother Mary Wortman Thatcher, from 1915 showing Charles S Wortman disappeared from his home at the age of 83. His body was found 2 weeks later near Platte River in NE.
The paper says that 'he was born in Kentucky, February 18, 1832 and died August 9, 1915. His early manhood was spent in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, where he taught school, coming to Nebraska in its territorial days. He was married to Elizabeth Goldsmith at Plattsmouth, NE November 1, 1859 and with his young wife moved to a homestead in Cass Co.' Says they 'had eleven children eight of whom survived, three having died in early childhood.'
I do know that Charles S. and my great great grandfather William H. Wortman were the children of Jacob and Valeria Wortman. Valeria's maiden name was Elliott. Charles and William's siblings were Maria, Martha, Mary, Joseph, Benjamin Franklin (Frank) and Marticia.
