I am currently writing a biography on the English-born composer Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji (1892-1988), whose mother was Madeline Matilda Worthy (1866-1959) and whose father was a Parsi from India. It has been very difficult conducting family history on Madeline and I would be greatly appreciative for any assistance from the members of this group (your assistance would be acknowledged in the preface to my dissertation and the information provided could very well find itself in print, which would be a great honour for this strand of the Worthys to be united in name to this important musician).
The family information that I have regarding Madeline Matilda Worthy is as follows:
Madeline's Father: Franics John Worthy (c.1822-1879) from Portsea, Hampshire. Francis's parents were John and Mary Ann Worthy.
Madeline's Mother: Sarah Matilda Worthy, nee Wood (1833-1915) from Southwark, London. Sarah's parents were John and Sarah Wood.
Madeline's Siblings:
1. Colin Manly Worthy (1860-1937) from Hull, whose wife was Jane "Florence" Worthy and whose children were Francis Colin and Leonard Paul Worthy.
2. Frances Caroline Worthy (1862-after 1936) from London, who may have been married to someone with either the sir name Douglas or Ide.
3. John Ethelbert Edward Worthy (1864-?) from London.
4. Leon Adonis Worthy (1869-1942) from London, whose wife was Mary Ann Worthy.
5. Claude Lionel Worthy (1871-1955) from London, whose wife was Mary Jane Worthy. Although Claude died in London, he did live for a time in Australia.
6. Frank Geoffry Worthy (1873-?) from London.
7. Blanche Winifred Worthy (1875-c.1936) from London, whose husband was Ernest Dieckmann.
I hope that this information corresponds with somebody's family within this forum. Thank you for both your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Sean V. Owen
