Robert 'the Quaker' WORTHINGTON, doubtful claims
Posted by: Paul Palmer (ID *****6427) Date: April 22, 2009 at 13:53:00
  of 1995

It is claimed repeatedly: 1.) that Robert 'The Quaker', a major link between UK and American Worthingtons, was born at Quarry Bank (incorrectly called Quarrel Banks) in the township of Pownall Fee in Cheshire ca. 1663; that he was the son of John (1629-1717/18)and Mary(c 1638-1723)WORTHINGTON. I have documentation from the London PRO, RG6, files 1035 & 1398, for four children born to this couple, but none is named Robert; and 2.) that said Robert married Alice Taylor, daughter of Robert (1633-1695) and Mary Hayes (d. 1728) TAYLOR. I have documention from Quaker birth records of 10 births to this Robert & Mary Taylor and there is no record of a child named Alice. Could she be from the Thomas / Christopher TAYLOR line instead?
Robert 'the Quaker' appears to be an important link. Can anyone provide actual documentation of his origins and/or of his connection to one Taylor line or another?
In the absence of such documentation, might we all agree to stop repeating undocumented assertions?
I am Paul C. Palmer, Comal County, TX, and my email is pcpalmer@gvtc.com .
