Can anyone help with a family mystery. William Appleby married Emily Mary or sometimes Mary Emily Smith in Manchester October 11 1885. A page torn from a Bible given to her by her mother on her wedding day reads to Mary WORTHING married as Emily Mary Smith - date etc. They had one child who lived, Charles Appleby born January 22 1890.
Mary died March 29 1893 when Charles was three. After his mother died Charles received various gifts of money and letters from 'a friend' who we assume to be the grandmother and who we are lead to believe had been a governess in the Court of Austria.
Just don't know where to start on this one.
