Pfc. Owen W. Worthey, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. William W. Worthey of the Cayson community near Nettleton, was killed in combat on May 6, 1966, just four days after arriving in Vietnam. Services were held May 14, 1966 in Pine Grove Methodist Church, near Robertís Store on old Highway 6 with burial in the church cemetery with Pickle Funeral Home of Amory in charge. Pfc. Worthey was born near Nettleton and attended school at Pine Grove and in Nettleton. He was inducted into the Army in June, 1965 from the Itawamba County Draft Board. He was attached to the 9th Infantry of the 25th Division when he arrived in Vietnam on May 2, 1966.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, were a brother, J. Mitchell Worthey of Hialeah, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Ophie Hester of Tupelo; and his grandmothers, Mrs. Maggie Worthey of Nettleton and Mrs. Edna Finney of Nettleton.
