This family is listed in the 1850 Yalobusha Co., Miss. census, but earlier they had been in Lafayette Co.This may be the connection you're looking for.

(Mary Ann (Duke) Wortham was b. Oct 18, 1816 in Meriwether Co., Ga., and d. Nov 11, 1890 at Airmount, Yalobusha Co.She was the widow of William Talliaferro Wortham, Jr., who was b. Feb 26, 1805, and d. Feb 13, 1846.They were married on Dec 12, 1833 in Meriwether Co., Ga.William served as a private in the Seminole Indian War in Florida. After his discharge in 1836/37, he lived one year in Troup Co., Ga., one year in Cherokee Co, Ga., and one year in Meriwether Co., Ga.A deed recorded in Meriwether Co., Ga., Deed Book G, p. 220, dated Jan 24, 1840, shows Bedford B. Duke selling to David Duke, both of Meriwether, for $750.00, Land Lot # 200 in 11th Land District. Witnesses were David W. Duke and W. T. Wortham.In 1840 William was listed on the Lafayette Co., Miss. census. In 1841 he was on the Choctaw Co., Miss. tax rolls. In c1845 he was in Yalobusha Co. where he lived until his death. He was a son of Capt. William Taliaferro Wortham, Sr.* and Sarah Braswell.
William Taliaferro Wortham, Jr. and Mary Ann Duke had these children:

2. Ulysses Taliaferro Wortham, b. c1838.
3. Ethan Lafayette “Ettana” Wortham, b. c1840, and d. c1863.
4. William Tyler Wortham, b. Nov 6, 1842, and d. Feb 26, 1920; m. Annis Elizabeth Durrett (1843-1931).
5. Mary Elizabeth Adeline Wortham, b. Mar 27, 1842, and d. Jan 9, 1923; m. Francis Durrett.

*Capt. William Taliaferro Wortham, Sr. was b. Mar 20, 1768, and d. July 20, 1845, a son of Thomas Wortham** and Mary Taliaferro. Sarah Braswell was b. Aug 10, 1777, and d. July 3, 1859. William lived in Morgan Co., Ga., where he made a deed of gift to his children, recorded in Deed Book D, pp. 188-190.
Capt. William Taliaferro Wortham and Sarah Braswell had these children:
1. Joseph White Wortham, b. c1801; m. Mourning Hallmark in 1831 in Harris Co., Ga.
2. Selinda Wortham, b. c1802; m. Sheriff Brewster.
3. Sarah Wortham, b. Feb 27, 1803, and d. Oct 1873; m.(1) Samuel Franklin Hamblett (1802-1828); and m.(2) Henry Peter Lynch (1805-1868). They lived for a time in Troupe Co., Ga., and moved in the late 1830s to Lafayette Co., Miss.Sarah Wortham and her first husband Samuel F. Hamblett had three sons, one of whom was:
a. William Wortham Hamblett.
4. Thomas Payne Wortham, b. c1804, and d. c1845; m. Cassandra Pittman on Mar 20, 1836 in Chambers Co., Ala. Thomas P. was on the tax rolls of Choctaw Co., Miss. 1838-1844. In 1846, his wife was on the tax roll.

7. Jett Thomas Wortham, b. Jan 5, 1817, and d. Apr 3, 1887; m. Lucy Parker (1828-1904) on Sept 9, 1845 in Choctaw Co., Miss. He served as a private in the Creek Indian War of 1836. After the war, he resided in Troup Co., Ga. By 1838 he was on the Choctaw Co., Miss. tax rolls, where he was taxed through 1850. In 1855 he moved to Corsicana, Texas where he lived for two years. In either 1857 or 1858 he moved to Trinity Co., Texas where he became a dry goods merchant in Pennington. He is listed in the 1870 census of Trinity Co., Texas. By 1880, he was still in Trinity Co., Texas, but now listed as retired. In 1887, Jett Wortham and wife Lucy moved to Bell Co., Texas. He died in Mineral Wells, Texas, but is buried in Temple, Texas.
**Thomas William Wortham was b. Oct 27, 1739; m. Mary Taliaferro (pronounced “Tolliver”), b. Oct 6, 1745. Thomas was a son of George J. Wortham II*** and Anne (Grimes?). Thomas Wortham and Mary Taliaferro had these children who have been identified:
1. Ann “Nancy” Wortham, b. c1765; m. John Griffin (c1756-c1825).
2. Rose Wortham, b. c1767; m. Michael Bailey (b. c1757).
3. William Taliaferro Wortham, b. Mar 20, 1768. See above.
4. George Wortham, m. Judah Warren “Judith” Maddox, a dau of Notley Maddox and Susannah Lee, dau of Thomas and Mary Lee.
***George J. Wortham II was b. Feb 5, 1698, and d. 1752; m. Anne (Grimes?), b. c1707. George J. Wortham II was a son of Capt. George Wortham**** and his second wife Mary ___.
George J. Wortham II and his wife Ann had these children:
1. George Wortham, b. Jan 19, 1726/7, and d. Sept 6, 1728.
2. John Wortham, b. Dec 20, 1729, and d. Jan 9, 1743/4.
3. Mary Wortham, b. Feb 28, 1731/2, and d. May 26, 1742.
4. Ann Wortham, b. Dec 22, 1734, and d. Apr 6, 1742.
