The name Wormell, which has many variants, is thought to be English. There is mention of a Wormald in 1198, and Wormalls during the 15th to 17th centuries; of course, both of these surnames are still alive and well! Wormells are found in a number of countries, notably the USA and Canada, and there are a few of us (related, as it happens) in various parts of Australia.

In 1999 a Wormell get-together was held at Langenhoe, Colchester, England. Not surprisingly, most of those who attended were British, but there were also representatives from North America and Australia. A substantial amount of genealogical material was collated, mostly British and Australian, and fruitful work is continuing.
