From the October 1930 issue of American Rifleman magazine, an obituary for Morris M. Works as follows: Lieut. Morris M. Works, 19th Pursuit, Wheeler Field, Territory of Hawaii, a member of the Texas Civilian rifle team in 1927, was killed in an airplane accident August 18. He held the civilian record at Camp Perry over the National Match Course, with a score of 291. August 8 he won a place in the Hawaiian Departmental Match, thereby getting his third leg on the Distinguished Marksman, and on August 13 he won his second leg for the pistol "D.M." Five days later he left the shooter's ranks forever.
