Obit of James M. Works, 1873 - 1951, Gadsden AL

(No date on this obit that I found in a relative's personal papers, but this same obit is listed in the records of Forrest Cemeterry in Gadsden AL with a burial date of June 12, 1951. I also found an AL death record for a James M. Works on June 9, 1951 in Montgomery AL. This obit mentions that he died at the home of his daughter in Montgomery AL, but lived in Etowah County his whole life.)

I believe James M. Works to be the son of J.M. Works (born circa 1834 NC) and Abigail/Abbie McCartney (born 1850). The 1880 census shows a James Works, age 7 in the household of Alfred H. Gibson (James'stepfather per the census) and Abbie Gibson (Abbie McCartney Works remarried in 1878 to Mr. Gibson)

Obit of James M. Works

The body will remain at the residence of his son, James M. Works, Jr., 404 Slack Street, until time for the funeral service which will be held at 2 pm Tuesday at the South Highland Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Breeden officiating.

Active pallbearers will be his grandsons.

He is survived by two sons, W. M. Works, Tuscaloosa, and James M. Works, Jr., Gadsden; one daughter, Mrs. J.R. Glassco, Montgomery; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He had lived in Etowah County all of his life and before his retirement had worked for the Kyle Lumber Co. and the Gadsden Heating Company.

I sure would like to locate some of the descendants mentioned in this obit. Where are those seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.... and I'm sure there are many more descendants by now! Any cousins out there?

Saran
