Hi,
I have a book by Thelma C. Anderson
who has the children of Jacob Workman son
of Abraham Workman and Annetje Smith; born
about 1740 in Somerset CO. New Jersey; was
a sharp-shooter in Revolutionary War having
enlisted 26 August 1776. He was notable and
daring hunter of the savage mountains of New
Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland. His
ability was such that he was called the
"Daniel Boone" of Maryland. He married:
Elizabeth Wyckoff Born: 1755-8 in New Jersey.
Died: 1823-4 in Bourbon Kentucky. Two of her
brothers followed the Workman move from New
Jersey to Maryland and from there to
Kentucky. The first child of Jacob and
Elizabeth was born in New Jersey and then
the young family went to Allegany Co.
Maryland where the rest of the children were
born and raised. There were 12 children.
Remaining in Maryland, Isaac, John, Andrew,
Stephen, and Joseph also took the oath of
Fidelity to the state of Maryland, listing
themselves under the company of Andrew Bruce
from Washington County. In the years 1788 and
1789 men of known service during the
Revolution were given the chance to aquire 50
acres of land each. Among those so rewarded
were John Workman, Issac Workman, William
Workman, Andrew Workman, Jacob Workman,
Stephen Workman,John Wyckoff, and Samuel
Wyckoff. It was at this time that Washington
County was divided and Allegany County came
into being with Cumberland as the county
seat. In a neighboring state from the county
of Washington, Maryland, other Workman sons,
whose record follows, on the 28th day of
August 1776 joined the service declaring
themselves, Isaac Workman, Stephen Workman,
Joseph Workman, Jacob Workman, John Workman,
and Andrew Workman, to be for the cause of
liberty.Have more info on him and his wife
and children.
Lilee Workman
