Here are some quick clues suggesting your line a few generations farther back.
This information should give you something to go on, but verify it to your satisfaction before accepting it as fact.It comes from a variety of sources including LDS Family Search.
MARION WORKMAN, b. 28 December 1861 in Cannonsburg, Boyd Co., KY to William Carter Workman and Jane (Nunley) Workman; married in Paintsville, Johnson, Ky 15 September 1904 Rose Butcher who was bornabt. 1884 to Marcus L. and Gemima (Meek) Butcher.According to LDS and Workman Family History (Anderson), Marion died about 1921 in Paintsville, Johnson Co., KY.I found a death listing in Kentucky Deaths by Rootsweb online which I feel is likely this Marion Workman, (Vol. 009, Cert. No. 04202) age 62, d. 01-28-1924.
WILLIAM CARTER WORKMAN
m. 1st, about 1861, Jane Nunley, b. about 1841 and d. about 1875.
m. 2nd, 18 August 1876 Jerusha Ellen (Dils) Johnson.
WILLIAM CARTER WORKMAN was born in November 1838 in Louisa, Lawrence Co., KY to Jesse and Elizabeth (Marcum) Workman. He died 17 June 1892 in Catlettsburg, Boyd, KY.
William and Jerusha were at Cannonsburg, Boyd County, Kentucky in the 1880 census with Workman children: Marion 18, John 15, Virginia 14, Sarah Belle 12, Amandee 10, William Daniel 8, Charles L. 6, and Margaret 2;Johnson Children:
Elizabeth B., 15, Mary D., 12, Luvenia 10, Luada 9, and Linnie 5.
WORKMAN FAMILY HISTORY by Thelma C. Anderson picks up this line on page 635.She recorded that Jesse was born in February 1809 and died 6 November 1892 in Louisa, Lawrence, Kentucky. She said Jesse was born to Pheobe Workman before her marriage to Isaac Roberts. She said Jesse’s wife, Elizabeth was born about 1810 to Steven and Elizabeth (Sadler) Marcum.
Years ago, I had a copy of a 1907 letter written by Alderson Workman stating that Phoebe was a sister to his grandfather, Jacob Workman, and their parents were Joseph and Phoebe Workman. In anticipation of questions, I no longer have the copy of Alderson Workman’s letter.
