Ditto. As a child I hated my name and it was largely because it almost always made me be the last.Perhaps that is why as an adult, I always like to sit in the front.
By the time I married I decided that I like my unique maiden name and toyed with idea of keeping it.I dropped my middle name however and kept Workinger as part of my name.I am proud of my German heritage and have learned that there are many Workinger/Werkinger/Werking (and the many other variations of the name) out there.I suspect that we are all cousins.
I have visited the Workinger ancestral home in Mandel, Germany.Yes I actually got in touch with the Burgermeister and asked if it was possible to tour it when I visited in 1997.It was built by Jacob Workinger who arrived in Philadelphia, PA. on the Royal Union in 1750.The medieval styled structure is the oldest house in the village and is featured on the brochure advertising Mandel.Village is S.W. of Frankfurt and on the Nahe River which is a tributary of the Rhine. This is a lovely area complete with the usual Germany hillside vineyard.
Good day or "Guten tag" to all my Workinger cousins!
