I agree fully that there is nothing like doing your own research, and that any serious researcher will look at original source records, rather than relying solely on published work. "Worden's Past" is not meant to take the place of each individual doing his or her own research. It is meant to be a starting point, to hopefully point interested researchers towards directions in which to research. It is also meant to be a repository of original records and lineages, to help future researchers. There is a database that is kept current, as researchers keep donating their work to the database. Queries are free to subscribers of "Worden's Past." I belong to NEHGS, my local genealogical society, as well as several other genealogical societies where my ancestors lived. I don't believe any publication can contain original source records, or very few are populated entirely of source records. As you know, during the course of research, one must make certain assumptions, with the assumptions changing as progress in the research continues. I don't know who you are aiming your remarks at, but "Worden's Past" as does the new website, does look at various spellings of the surname WORDEN. As I'm sure you know, a lot of our ancestors could not read nor write. The ones who could write could probably not spell all that well. My own line is a good example. My John Worden, son of Justus Worden and Lois (German/Greman) Worden, is found at times as Worden in the census, and Warden other times, yet this is the same man in different census records. This website, http://www.wordenfamilyassoc.org/ is a brand new website, still in its infancy. I'm not sure what you have found previously on the website, as it is less than a couple months old.
