I wanted to let all know that there is a Wooten DNA project on Familytreedna that can be found easily with a yahoo search. Also I do know that Ancestry has yDNA from at least two Wootans. The DNA has already shed some light on a few families and I think it will eventually fill in a lot of "gaps" in our records.
For example, a descendant of Eliab Wootan bca 1760 (through Israel b. 1804 - William Eliab Sr b. 1825 - William Eliab Jr b. 1858)who settled in Orangeburg SC following the Rev War matches on 25 out of 25 markers with descendants of the Warwick County VA Wootens (including me). The relationship predictor calculates there is a 94% chance that we share a common Wooten ancestor within 12 generations. George Wooton bca 1690 VA would be at generation #11 and it seems that George may have been the first to use the "Wootan" spelling (or his sons collectively decided to change to it). I say that because I have personally corresponded with descendants of his sons Thomas, Daniel, John, and Jeremiah who still spell their names "Wootan" or know when the name in their family changed to "Wooten". I would suggest their is a very good chance that Eliab is a grandson/ggrandson of George.
