JOAB H. WOOSTER, son of Daniel H. Wooster, is said to have been the first white child born in Java, NY. He was born at Java Village, March 12th, 1815. At twelve years of age he left home and was for two years employed by William Coughran, of Attica, in making spinning wheels. He subsequently learned the carpenter's and millwright's trade. He has lived at Strykersville most of the time since 1825. He was first married Dec. 14th, 1838, to EVELINE STRYKER, who died Aug. 16th, 1845. Nov. 30th, 1845, he married MAHALA ROGERS. She died July 18th, 1852, and Oct. 6th, 1852, he married LAURA CLARK, who died Dec. 23rd, 1856. Miss EVELINE SPENCER became his wife Feb. 12th, 1862. Mr. Wooster has been exclusively engaged in millwrighting since 1840, erecting some of the most important mills in this section of the State. He has been a deacon of the Baptist church of Strykersville for twenty-five years or more.
