Fascinating, Frances! This explains why I had two different years of death for Ezra, 1876 & 1879.
The San Francisco Call Newspaper Vital Records for the Years 1869-1891 stated he was one of seven people who died in the collapse of the Moore's Opera House in Sacremento, California, so that puts his death in the year 1876. However the same story gives his death in the year 1879, so with your new imput I find he possibly may have died a few years after the collapse of the building from lingering injuries.
Is Ezra buried in the Sacramento Old City Cemetery?
