Thank you, Doug, for responding so promptly. The Moore's Opera House tragedy occurred in 1876. I have a thick file on the event because I am a docent at Sacramento's Old City Cemetery and do my own research. According to all the newspaper reports, Mr.Woolson did not die IN the collapse itself. And only one person died a few days later of his injuries, making a total of 8 fatalities directly related to the collapse. Here is what the Sacramento Bee said about Woolson's condition the day after: "Ezra Woolson, County Tax Collector,is dangerously injured, having a broken shoulder and other hurts. He was also included in the list of persons supposed to be dying, but he still exists and is doing exceedingly well for a man of his age." I hope this answers a few of your questions about him, but I'll bet it also raises some new ones. That's just the way this kind of research goes.----- frances.
