This post caught my eye because you mentioned Oldham. My g-grandmother Ellen Woolley was born in Oldham in 1871/1872. She was orphaned at an early age and raised by her mother's sister, Ellen Feeney-Rush, and brought to Mass USA, where she married William Moneypenny of Paddington, England. They then moved to NJ where they raised my grandfather and his 8 siblings. It wasn't until recently that I received the Massachusetts marriage cert for Ellen Woolley to William Moneypenny, where it says Ellen was born in Oldham, and her parents were John Woolley b. abt 1841 and Mary Feeney b. abt 1842. I ordered John and Ellen's marriage cert thru freeBMD where it says they were married Nov of 1961 in Manchester and that John Woolley's father was Michael Woolley and Mary's father Was John Feeney. Witnesses were Ann Moran and John Casserly. On the 1891 census Ellen Woolley's aunt is back in Oldham England, with her son Augusine Rush who was born in the usa. I think I found my John Woolley in 1861, a Lodger from Ireland born 1841. He is rooming with his brother Micohael Woolley b. 1830. Being that my John Woolley's father on his marriage cert is named Michael, it is very likely that his brother was named after the father. I don't know if you have any of these names in your Woolley family, perhaps they are related. You never know! Andrea Notify Administrator about this message?
