Sowell Woolfolk was a Brig. Gen. in the state militia. He was the son of Richard Woolfolk and Henrietta (Pollard) Dalton. Richard Woolfolk was the son of Joseph W. Woolfolk and Eliza Biggers. Joseph was the great grandson of the immigrant Richard Woolfolk.

Sowell died on Jan. 23, 1832. The Augusta Chronicle of Jan. 28, 1832 wtote: "His (Major Joseph Camp) ball passed through W. above the heart. W. walked seven steps toward the croward of spectators and said, 'He has killed me.' The blood gushed out of his mouth; he viewed in attentively, laid himself upon the ground and expired immedediately, without again spoken."
