RACHEL A. LOWRANCE was born in Missouri, Sept. l0, l86l, and moved with her parents to Decatur County in l862.
The subject of our sketch was united in marriage to EDWARD L. WOOD, May 27, l883.To this union were born two children, MILLARD and ETHEL, who are left with the husband, father, mother, sisters, brothers and a large circle of friends to mourn her sad departure, but not as those who have no hope, for she was converted and united with the M.E. Church in l89l and has since lived a consistent Christian life, until Feb. ll, l902, when death relieved her of her patient suffering.She had been sick for several weeks but not considered dangerous until a few hours before her death, when she called her husband to her side and told him she wanted to bid him bood-bye and told them she was ready to go and wanted them to live upright lives that they might once more clasp glad hands, where parting will be no more.
Her life was one of example which will live after her, for to know her was to know a worthy friend of kindness, industry and compassion.
Funeral services took place at Wesley Chapel, Feb. l2, in the presence of one of the largest funeral audiences ever assembled in the church, conducted by Rev. Trotter, after which the remains were laid tenderly to rest in the Evergreen Cemetery at Lineville, in compliance to her request.
A place is vacant in the church
In the home a vacant chair;
There are fond reminiscenses 'round
about,
Cheer up kind parents, children dear,
That sacred pledge revere
And build up your life in light and
hope
To meet her in a Heavenly sphere.
