When Robert Woods showed up in this area of Juniata County where I live, it was either Cumberland or Mifflin County, so if you haven't pursued your research in those counties, you will want to do so.I would also check Perry County records since it was formed out of Cumberland County, and some of these Wood's ended up there, e.g. Jackson Township.Did you check the Passenger Ship Lists for Robert Woods, et. als, and then find the county/township where he resided beginning with the 1790 census up.I couldn't find Robert and his wife in the cemetery records for Academia, but I know that someone else had told me before in correspondence that he was buried there.
I did find Sara Smith, Woods, d. 30Sep1826 at 32 years having her being born in 1794.Her ancestors may have resided in Perry County...Newport area, and I believe she had a brother buried at Academia:Andrew Woods b. 1790; d.04Oct1867.
According to one record I have, Robert Woods, b. Ireland married Elizabeth Lyle in Chester Co., PA,removed to Turbett Township, Juniata County, PA, and they had the following known children:John died young; Eliza married Thomas Elliot and moved to IA in 1843; Joseph married first to Sarah Smith who died young, and second to Margaret Adams.Joseph and Margaret supposedly had six known children: Mary, Thomas, Hettie, Francis Wayne, and James who married to Louisa Brickley. One record says Robert Woods died in 1837 at 78 yrs., and his wife died in 1813 at 45 years.Francis Wayne Woods married to Sarah Wharton and they had a son William W. Woods. b. 06May1833, and that year Francis moved his family from Turbett Township, Juniata County to Jackson Township, Perry Co., PA.William W. Woods married on 04Aug1857 to Catharine Jane Loy, daughter of George and Lydia Ann Bower, Loy of Perry County, PA.
Loy and Elliot were prominent early names to Perry County, PA, and there could be published histories on them that talk about the Woods connection.
I don't know how accurate this information really is, but it may give you some leads to pursue.
