Dear Alehay,
Its seems that similar tragedies struck both of our
ancestors, but I dont think they arte related.I will tell
you what I know about what happened to my grandfather Albert
Woods.
Albert was born in 1911 and died in 1991 and resided in
Man of Logan Co., WV.I remember him well.He told my
father that his father, John, brought him, Earl, Lawrence,
and Catherine ( Alberts siblings)to WV from Johnstown, PA.There is a lot of mystery surrounding their mother. We dont know if she abandoned the family and this is the reason John left with the kids or if he thought she was unfit to be a mother.
Anyway, he left and arrived in southern WV around 1915.
John was murdered when Albert was 7 yrs old, 1918.According to what Albert told my father, a man tookhim back
in the mines and robbed him, then came out of the mine, beat
up my grandfather and thought he also was dead and left him
lying. They never found Johns body, from what we can gather.Understand that this was back when the miners were
trying to organize, times were tough. Some of Johns friends
supposedly knew who killed him and gave my grandfather,
Albert, a gun and told him to kill this man but my gfr was
young and wouldnt do it. We dont even know if the man was
ever prosecuted.
Recently, a woman who was researching the Woods contacted my parents and said that she thought they came from VA.
This leads me to belive that John didnt want anyone to know
where they came from for fear of his wife finding him.By
the way,I forgot to mention that we think her name was
Katie.John may have told the kids to not tell the truth
where they came from????
Sorry this was so long.I have hit a brick wall on my
mothers side (Woods) but have traced my fathers side back
to England.
