I was leaning toward Matthew's birth place being England for the very reasons you cited. But where...for sure?
I haven't come across any info supported with any form of documentation. There seems to have been a whole lot of 'guess-timating' going on in an effort to try and connect Matthew to antecedents. Therealso seems to be quite the debate about the accuracy of connecting him to David Woodruff and Lettice Duncombe.
I have seen Matthew's wedding date to Hannah Baldwin estimated in the 1642-48 range...and several times it was pinpointed as 31 May 1642, in Amersham, England. Again, not supported by documentation.
