My great-grandfather Thomas Percival Wooding b.1832 in Turvey, Bedfordshire, emigrated to New Zealand in 1856. He married Hephzibah Gibbs in New Zealand, who also emigrated from Turvey in 1856. Presumably they had known each other before emigrating. They eventually settled on a farm in the district of Woodbury, near Geraldine, in the South Island of New Zealand. The farm they bought was ring-fenced for sale, but was otherwise `in the rough.'
They had a large family. A 100-year family reunion was held at Woodbury in 1973 was attended by several hundred descendants (some by marriage, of course).
There is a fair chance that our families are connected, as Turvey is only a few miles from North Crawley, and is close to Wylmington and Ridgnorth. Are the Woodings in the area pleased to hear they may have acquired several hundred new relations?
Regards / John
