Joanna Weeks
GARDNER [Worc. Co., Mass.] — Joanna (Woodhull) Weeks, 89, died Friday (6-20-03) in the Center for Extended Care at Amherst where she had lived for more than a year.
She was born the first of triplets on Sept. 1, 1913, in Bennington, Vt., the daughter of Dr. Joel B. and Elizabeth (Remington) Woodhull.
Orphaned at an early age, the triplets and two older brothers went to Kurn Hatin Home for children in Westminster, Vt., where they were nurtured and schooled.
She graduated from Franklin County Public Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. She married Robert E. Weeks of Winchester, N.H. in 1939. They lived at 129 Elm St. where they raised three children and boarded five teachers over the years. Her husband died in 1969.
Weeks was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church of Gardner, was a member of the Jessamine Chapter of the Eastern Star and the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America. She was affiliated with Kurn Hatin Homes, serving as a trustee and on the board of corporators and was a member of the Gardner Women’s Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Margaret Morze of West Chester, Penn., and Susan J.W. Tidlund of Montague; a son, Robert E. Weeks Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Wednesday at the First Congregational Church with burial to follow in Green Bower Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Douglass Funeral Home, Amherst.
