James Henry WOODHOUSE
Posted by: James Wodehouse (ID *****6677) Date: May 06, 2002 at 13:25:12
  of 679

James Henry WOODHOUSE was a farmer in Ireland and was married to Elizabeth Jane ARMSTRONG

Son James Henry Jnr b abt 1838 Ireland, he moved to Wigtown some time before 1865, as he married Catherine BARCLAY in October of that year.

First son Thomas born Leswalt 1865
Second James Henry born Kirkolm 1867

The family returned to Ireland Belfast No1
where Dau Eliza Jane was born June 1869

The family came back to Scotland and settled in Anderston Glasgow where
Margaret FAULDS WOODHOUSE was born 1870
James Henry WOODHOUSE was born in April 1872
William WOODHOUSE born 1874 (my grandfather)
Mary BRUCE MURRAY WOODHOUSE1877
George 1880

James Snr was a docker, and killed in an accident in October 1881

William married Sarah McCRACKEN in Blythswood 1897
Elizabeth Jane (born in Belfast) had married
William MaCAULAY and was living at Pitt Street in Anderston, Glasgow by the 1901 census
also living with the family was Elizabeths mother
Catherine and a John GILMOUR

Witness at William and Sarahs marriage were
John GILMOUR and Margaret McCRACKEN

My uncle Charles Wodehouse (son of William)
married Janet McCRACKEN STEVENSON

Catherines parents were Samuel BARCLAY and
Agnes McPHERSON, Catherine was born in Stoneykirk
abt 1840

Sarah McCRACKENS parents were Andrew McCRACKEN born Maybole 1835 and Martha McCALLUM born 1836 in Busby
Andrew was a lamplighter in Glasgow

James and Elizabeth were both dead before October 1881
when James Jnr was killed in the accident.

I think that James and Elizabeth were not originaly Irish but perhaps part of the English contingent who settled there

To contradict what I have just said witness at James and Catherines marriage in Leswalt Wigtown were
Thomas KING and James MORELAND

I believe that Thomas was Jamess cousin
as his parents were James KING and Margaret ARMSTRONG
Margaret would be the sister of Elizabeth ARMSTRONG
Thomas KING was also born in Leswalt around 1825

Places of interest to me include
All Glasgow inc, WOODHOUSE in Milton, Dennistoun, Kinning Park and Priesthill
All Ireland inc, Tartaraghan, Belfast all areas
All England (cant be speciface)
Any links to America including the ARMSTRONG name

names in the cauldron
